OHIO LOFTS

Columbus, Ohio
2022-2023

In the heart of re-emerging downtown Columbus, Ohio is a series of historic buildings dating back to the late 1800s. On busy Main Street, just two blocks from the historic Great Southern Hotel, are the Ohio Lofts, a converted factory space turned mixed residential and commercial space. Our goal was to convert one of the residential units into a livable space with nods to the past, celebrating contemporary and postmodern styles.

Soaring ceilings stand out as one of the space’s best features. More than 14 feet high, they inspired our commitment to preserving an open, airy feel while creating comfortable, intimate spaces within. We divided the floor plan to include a welcoming entryway with a built-in seating area that doubles as a coat closet.

We introduced many postmodern and contemporary furniture pieces into the space, including an original bed from the famed Gramercy Park Hotel in New York City. We chose a monochromatic avocado green wall paint to match its velvet frame and balance the red of the brick.

Referencing the mortar of the brick, we reimagined the bathroom in simple matte gray, creating a clean space integrated with the building’s industrial bones.
